This route exists
only when the country freezes.

For a short winter window, frozen water, deep snow and locked ground connect country that cannot be crossed the same way at any other time of year.

Snowmobiles cover the distance. Ice driving demands precision. Then the engines stop and a dog team takes over.

Power. Precision. Silence.

A distant dog team crosses a broad snow-covered river basin below an open mountain horizon.

Power.
Precision.

Silence.

Three helmeted snowmobilers follow deep tracks through a snow-laden mountain forest.

Chapter I / Cover the distance

Across the White

The machines handle the first long section. Learn the snowmobile, then use it for what it does best: cover country. Frozen lakes, forest corridors and deep snow begin to connect as the group moves farther from the road network. The point is not to ride in circles. It is to get somewhere.

Chapter II / Ice control

The Frozen Circuit

Then the machine changes. Where conditions allow a prepared frozen circuit, move from instruction into car control — braking, weight transfer, line choice and balance on ice. Once the fundamentals are working, the clock can come in. Not a race. Just enough timing to make precision matter.

Chapter III / Animal power

Where Machines Stop

Eventually, engines stop being the best answer. Leave the machines behind and meet the dog team for the next section. Learn the sled, understand the team and continue into the winter country under animal power.

A gloved hand grips the sled handle above packed equipment as the dog team pulls ahead.

The sound changes first.

Polar & Ice
Travellers unload a dog sled beside a warm winter base as blue evening light settles over the mountain valley.

Chapter IV / Arrive & recover

The Winter Base

The dog team carries the journey to the night’s base. Arrive cold and moving, then step inside somewhere warm. Wet gear dries. Dogs are looked after. Equipment is reset. Dinner is hot and waiting. Outside, the route stays frozen.

Chapter V / Continue the crossing

The Other Side

Morning is planned as an onward leg, rather than a retracing of yesterday’s tracks. Harness up and continue through winter country toward the exit agreed for your departure. The exact direction and pickup depend on the season’s access and conditions. Behind you, yesterday’s route is already disappearing into tracks.

Polar & Ice
A small dog team crosses an open snow basin below a vast range of windblown white mountains.

The Stay &
Food

Warm rooms. Hot food. Dry gear.

Days outside are real, so recovery matters. Warm rooms, hot food, dry gear and enough time around the table to reset before the next morning. Comfort is not the point of the Winter Run. It is what lets the next day begin properly.

Guests settle into a warm timber-and-stone lodge overlooking snow-covered forest and mountains.A chef serves dinner to three guests at a winter lodge, with snowy forest beyond the windows.

You feel the journey. Not the logistics.

Ready at the right moment

Snowmobiles, ice-driving vehicles, fuel, winter equipment, dog teams, route checks and a warm base all have to meet the journey at the right moment.

Dry gear. Ready machines.

Wet gear disappears and returns dry. The next machine is ready when the last one stops.

The handover

The dog team meets the journey when engines are no longer the right answer.

Safety

Winter travel depends on conditions. Routes, surfaces and activities may change with snow, ice, weather and operational judgement. Specialists support each chapter. The objective is to make good decisions and keep the journey moving, rather than force the original plan.
